What lessons did you learn as a consequence of living in such proximity to the military.Ī: Being a military spouse gave me so many experiences that I never would have had otherwise, We moved 27 times and each move created new opportunities for our family. ![]() Q: You were born and raised in the Lowcountry, but then traveled about a bit thanks to your marriage to Colby Broadwater, now a retired Army lieutenant general and the current president of The American College of the Building Arts. I used the whole language approach in my teaching, therefore the art of acting is an excellent way to incorporate many educational skills. My students understood the value of set design, costuming and of good projection of one’s voice. I used acting as a method to teach oral speaking and self-confidence while using my students’ artistic talents to design the sets and props. I trained as a elementary teacher so always had plays in my classrooms. I have no formal theater training but always worked plays into my classroom curriculum. Q: Have you ever done any acting? Have you worked in the theater before?Ī: I have never been in a play. I am learning something new everyday in this job and just trying my best everyday. I have been very fortunate to have in our theater a talented artistic director, Don Brandenburg. Maybe I stepped in because I lived next door, so I knew how dedicated the actors, directors and all who are employed in our theater were. At most theaters, the executive director is the business manager, the development officer, the house manager and countless other jobs in a theater she/he has to be on 24/7. What prompted you to step into the breach?Ī: Footlight had four executive directors while I served on the Footlight board, so it just came about that someone had to step in before we had number five. Q: In 2015, you become executive director of Footlight Players Theatre. Her task at Footlight is to ensure the historic theater continues to thrive well into the future. She said she’s never had a bad experience in the theater, especially when she was attending a musical. ![]()
